Clear Creek Amana Community School District serves a diverse population in its elementary schools. The Elementary Extended Learning Program, ELP, is designed to meet the needs of gifted students at each attendance center.

The mission of the Extended Learning Program is to provide educational programming which maximizes the unique cognitive abilities and enhances the personal growth of students in grades K-12 who demonstrate outstanding abilities or potential and/or who are capable of high performance in the areas of general intellectual ability and/or specific ability aptitude in reading and math. These gifted students need appropriate and varied educational opportunities commensurate with their abilities and needs. Collaboratively, the general education teacher and the ELP teacher will provide these educational opportunities.

Clear Creek Amana School District’s belief statements about ELP programming:

  • Standards for identification of students and programming should be consistent across the district, but responsive to individual student needs.
  • Gifted and talented students appear in all populations, in all cultural  groups, across all economic strata, and in all levels of achievement.
  • Gifted and talented students require varied services and program options to meet their individual affective and cognitive needs.
  • Differentiated instruction and/or ELP programming will enable these    students to maximize their lifelong learning potential and contribute to  the betterment of their community.
  • Providing appropriate programming for gifted and talented students is  a responsibility shared by classroom teachers, guidance counselors,  administrators, gifted and talented specialists and parents.
